Hi all dont know if this is the right place to post this so in advance, sorry :)

Ok was playing my pc last night and a loud bang occurred, pc shut down and all i could smell was burning.

Automatically i thought oh s*&t.

I messed around with it and i now think its the GPU that went boom since my pc comes on with it taken out.

My questions are:-
it cant be anything else except the GPU since my system is running with an old gpu in now?
Is there any way to salvage the GPU, say if i took it into a ship, would they be able to repair?

Cheers in advance
Silpher

Would be worth testing your psu.

Not much that can be done i'm afraid you'll have to try a rma and see if they'll replace it. No reason why it should have gone bang.

Was it overclocked at all?

Its a 7800 and only about 3 months old (if that)
And wasnt over clocked or anything =/ Could it have overheated?
Ive taken it out and no marks or burns or anything really on it, still looks like new. Tried it in another lane and no connection via DVI put an old GPU in both slots and the pc works.

How would i test the PSU?

Why would he need to test PSU, if its still working??? I have yet to see PSU go bang and then boot up a system.

I mean there is a chance its like supplying 100W power cause its nearly dead so it cant support GPU, but I mean the chance of that is ridiculously small.

A 3 month old graphics card going bang, sounds like a warranty claim to me, surely?

You should check the output wattage of the PSU though, for sure.
