Hi

I just bought a Radeon 7970. To my dissappointment I got not video and a few beeps from my machine when I started it up with the new card.

I think the issue is that I had two six pins plugged in which should be ok, however it seems I need a 8 and 6 pin combination.

Unfortunately my PSU does not have these, only 6 pins.

I want to get a 6-8 oin convertor or a 4 to 8 pin. My PSU is a 1000 watt.

Will this give the GPU the power it requires?

Thanks for the feedback.

What is the PSU that you have?

Although it may have a 1000W sticker on it, if it is not a good model (and I would expect a good model to have an 8-pin connector) I would be extremely wary about powering a good component like a 7970 through it.

This is because the lines are often unreliable on cheaper PSU models and don't supply the amps that it says it does.

It's simply a fitting change to fit the socket, nothing changes. It'll draw more power but it shouldn't make any difference, aslong as the rail it's connected to can supply the amps.

Are the Newton PSU's any good?

We'll I am not an expert in PSU brands but it has been handling Nvidia 8800GTX ins SLI and Nvidia 9800's in SLI fine. I then moved to single card Radeons after that.

The PC is years old, so that might explain why it doesn't have the 8 pin connectors...

I am only speculating though.

Maybe someone else here can shed some light.
