hia so i sent back my dead 580 3gb to receive 770 4gb and it suffers from coil whine which im very sensitive to.

OCUK say that it doesn't affect stability or performance so refuse RMA.

i was under impression coil whine is worthy of a RMA.

am i wrong??

all new cards have coil whine so its not usually worthy of an RMA unless its really bad which can happen in rare cases.

did you get a 770 as a straight swap for the 580? :o

which 770 is it?

Coil whine is a bit of a grey area - its subjective at what level of it warrants a replacement and can also in some cases be caused by a combination of hardware (or even a localised grounding fault) and a GPU that exhibits it in one PC might not in another.

No harm posting in the customer service section of the forum and getting another opinion on it from OcUK but unless its at extreme levels you might not get an RMA accepted.

i had a MSI 580 lighting extreme 3gb, which was bought 3rd hand off MM, and received 770 4gb gaming edition.

very lucky to get such a great card but really cant stand coil whine.

Have you run it in for a couple of days?

If it's unbearable post in the CS forum and see if they can sort anything out.

i have a feeling a different PSU may fix the issue.

ive had my PSU for a few years now and since crimbo its been making noises randomly.

its not a crap PSU by any means. payed 100+ for it.

Seems very odd that they'd refuse the RMA without even testing it? It'd just be sent back to you if they couldn't reproduce it anyway.

bailey is saying its not classed as faulty and is a grey area.

fair enough as i got it as a replacement for a 580.

still annoying as hell though.

if i bought the card and they refused RMA then id ask for a refund.

Honestly, you've got a killer of a card I'd just learn to live with it. My cards fan makes a funny noise but I put up with it mainly because I can't be arsed with RMAing it and ending up with something worse.

Hello,

I understand your frustration with the whine with the card. Once the card has been burned in it may lessen or become non existent however.

Unfortunately coil whine is one of them things which can happen but the manufacturers don't class it as a fault as it doesn't effect the GPU at all. It is a very grey area, only in severe cases items with coil whine are excepted back to us under RMA.

My GPU at home as coil whine too unfortunately. :(

I hope this clears it up.

Cheers

Bailey
