Evening,

I need a new GPU, and I game at 3440 x 1440. Looking at AMD and between these two cards.

Do you think it is worth spending the extra £100+ for V64. The ideal is for this card to hold me over until either Nvidia or AMD actually release a card that impresses me. Not interested in 2060, 2070 or buying the R7 (Cheap but relatively powerful for the time being)

List of games I currently play:

MHW (Unofficial Ultrawide Mod), PUBG, Hunt Showdown, BFV and intend to play Division 2 (Free game so extra benefit) and Anthem (Already own) in the coming months.

My Spec: Win10, Ryzen 1700 @ 3.9Ghz ,16GB DDR4 3400mhz

Your thoughts?

Thanks both, I am not afraid of some jiggery-pokery and given me some sensible voices in my head to listen to. Any one know what the chances of getting Samsung HBM on current supply of Vega 56? Low mostly likely?

Between those two with prices as they are (£315 vs £420), I'd go for the Vega56.

What's your current graphics card?

I'm curious. Going by the system specs given, I'd assume it would've been a decent reasonably new card.

Also, why only considering AMD? Freesync monitor?

It was a 980ti, and I do have a Freesync monitor. I was going to buy a 2080 or 2080ti but decided to save for the next lot of cards whether that be AMD or Nvidia.

Both cards offer good value the Vega56 is very good.

I would go for the Vega64 even though it is not quite as good value as the 56 but it will last a little bit longer.

I see, the 980 Ti is still extremely competitive right now so I can see how you'd otherwise have skipped this generation if it hadn't of died.

I also game at 3440x1440 (albeit on an O/C 1070 Ti, which wanders between V56-V64 performance, game depending). I'd definitely recommend the V56 at £100+ less than the V64. If you were going to go 'all-in' this generation then I'd perhaps wait for the Radeon VII coming out soon, but otherwise would hunker down with the V56 for now, which should be extremely respectable for 3440x1440 for a good while yet.

The fact the 1070 Ti straddles both the V64 and V56 in results suggests to me the difference isn't all that great. V56 vs V64 isn't like a GTX 1070 vs GTX 1080, it's more like a bit wider apart GTX 1070 Ti vs GTX 1080. For £100+ less, I'd take the V56.

Thanks for your guys help on this, I ended up going with the Vega 64 from the links in the original post. Hopefully should tide me over until either AMD or Nvidia bring out something that excites me lol. :p

The nitro plus is a great card if a little long. That bracket is very welcome as there is a lot of metal in the cooler :D
