7770 mybe? seems to perform better than a gtx650 for the same money. and often comes close to 650ti, edit ah yeh don't think overclockers have them but a 460 is a good choice if its £100

On the AMD/ATi side, there is this:

On the Nvidia side, there is this:

Out of the 2, I would pick the GTX 650, but up to you, and I would have a look around to see exactly what you can get for your budget. Also I presume your screen is 1280x720 or 1366x768 otherwise I think it would be advertised as "Full HD".

EDIT: I would only pick the Nvidia because I am use to Nvidia and I really like EVGA cards, but, don't quote me on this, I think the 7770 performs better.

i have a gforce 8800gtx spare will that be ok with the res i think you are right leightonr25 will i be able to play ames like simcity 2013 on max with the tx 8800 gtx or the above cards listed by other users

thanks for all your help

Find out the res of your telly first.
If its an older set and has something like 1024*768 then all the 'temporary' cards people are suggesting will just be a waste of fifty quid that you could put towards a better res tv and then gpu.
Because a 6670 would do the job at that res.
