GPU high temps due to case

Hi my friend purchased a 7950 twin frozr which was chugging out some silly temperatures.

Regardless of the ambient the temperatures are far too high for my liking.

His fan speed is set to 50 percent to try and stop it from completely burning :P

Whilst idle he's getting about 50-60 degrees and has seen 80-100 degrees whilst in full load.

I thought the Twin frozr was suppose to be cooler than reference seems it's hotter :P

I believed it was fault so I sent it back to overclockers hoping for them to say it was faulty however that wasn't the case they repasted it which helped slightly but still it's far too hot. His cable-management is rather poor which could be a probably so I was lead to believe maybe if he purchases a new cheapish case so I can cable manage to ensure the temps are lower.

What cases what you recommend? tops £40 he's got a full ATX board I believe.

Thanks for reading.

I couldn't tell you without looking :(

It was a coolermaster and it was purchased from ********** about 16 months ago.

Perhaps something with a side vent, and make sure the airflow is unimpeded - so cable management, populate the available fan slots with fans blowing front/bottom to back/top.

You can probably do this with his current case if you give it a clean out and add in a couple fans.

My friend stated that they're cables everywhere it's a real mess as well only have one fan to cool the hdd at the front which doesn't seem enough :)

Any thoughts?

Check the picture on the page you just linked, the coolermaster one.

Add a 120mm fan to the bottom for intake, to get that GFX card properly cool.

And add another 120mm fan to the rear to get the hot air out from the CPU and GFX. Maybe another 120mm to the top for exhaust. (Not two).

That will sort your temps. For "Extreme" GFX cooling, add another 140mm fan to the side. This should be blowing in. However note that the side does not have a dust filter.

Oh, and re-do the cabling as much as you can. Check the build-logs forum for nicely done cable builds, you can do that to pretty much any case. Try hiding em in a bunch just under the CD-rom drives, or within that area, and run them through there.

Oh, and make sure the PSU fan is facing Downwards, so it does not eat away the air from the GPU.

Edit: Don't be afraid to use plenty of cable ties to get the cables sticking on the walls and not hanging freely.
