GPU hotter in Vista?

So I installed vista 64 Ultimate the other day and noticed that the GPU (260GTX) idle temp has increased by up to 10C (from 45C in XP to 53-59C in Vista) !!

I read that vista doesnt allow the gfx card to switch to 2D mode and therefore runs warmer (thanks to Aero or whatever).

How do I fix this?
Is there a way to force it to run in 2D mode (without having to disable all the eye candy)?

CPU temps have also increased, but by much less, only about 2-4C.

Cheers!

Vista's effects will run fine with 2D clocks. You got a Gainward 260? They have a bug in their bios that breaks 2D speeds.

If you want to force clocks, Gainward ExpertTool is good, and works with non Gainward cards.
