hey guys...

my dads asked me to spec a new desktop for him, mainly for high-def video editing.

so far. ive got.
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail
Samsung SpinPoint F1 640GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series DDR2
Pioneer DVR-216BK 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Corsair VX 450W ATX PSU
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-Bit
and my old Freezer 7 pro.

what im after is..
1)a GPU that will handle the high def video. Would THIS be sufficient?
2)a reasonable mobo that can take a little overclocking of the E8400. doesnt need RAID or xfire/sli. was thinking Abit IP43/Asus P5QL pro.
3)a nice cool case. reasonably cheap. and not huuge. was thinking Antec 300
4) a 22" widescreen monitor with dvi/hdmi inputs. is THIS any good?

cheers for any help guys

Overall thats quite a good choice of components, I would suggest however that a quad core would eb better for video editing if the budget will allow.

In response to your particular questions
1. Yes, that will be fine. If you will be -playing games you migth want something more beefy, but for video edit that will be ok.
2. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-151-AB&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1155&name=Abit%20IP43%20Intel%20P43%20(Socket%20775)%20PCI-Express%20DDR2%20Motherboard This is a great little board at a bargain price. If your budget is a bit bigger, an Asus P5Q qould be great also.
3. Antec 300 would be good.
4. That monitor looks fine, but that choice is really down to personal opinon. It might be worth seeing if there is somewhere you can try out some screens to assist your choice.

sweet.

what Quad would you reccomend?

is the Q6600 as easy to overclock as my E8400? im looking for about 3 ghz from it..

cheers

Q6600 should be able to hit that with the correct cooling. Its perhaps a little more difficult to overclock than the E6400 as it is basically 2 dual core chips joined together so each can have different temps and want different voltages, but only going as far as 3ghz that shouldnt be an issue

yeah i would go for a q6600 and get it to min of 3.0GHz easilly

ram seems fine....

not a bad graphics card an extra £15 go for

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

you will save this on the different choice of cpu anyway

case .............

ok.. so i made the order.

went for a BFG geforce 9800gt in the end.

along with a p5q pro and the Q6600

he decided not to bother with an LG blueray drive, so i put a bit more into the gpu and mobo.

i also ordered a Samsung 2233 monitor for him.

cheers for the advice :)
