Hi, new build PC, I have removed the GPU, 980 TI, from the old system, works fine. The new system, which is the same as the other one I built (built for my son) using the same mobo etc. but I cannot get the computer to recognize the GPU:

  • It powers up, the lights on on
  • It is in PCI Slot 1, but the UEFI/BIOS doesn't recognize it is in
  • On start up the fans spin
  • I have replaced the cables
  • Tried Slot 2
  • Reset the whole PC (drives are from the old one)
  • Tried downloading GeForce Exp. and the drivers
  • Reset the BIOS settings
  • Tried another working GPU, same result
System is:

  • Asus Z390 Mobo - New
  • i7 8700k - Old
  • 980 TI - Old
  • 2 x 8gb RAM - Old
  • SSD & HDD - Old
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated, thank you.

are the power cables fully inserted to the GPU and are they the original power cables for the PSU you are using?

sometimes they have different pin configurations between brands

also is the GPU fully latched in the slot?

Hi, GPU is fully in, same mobo as my own pc. Didn't mention the PSU - Corsair CX750F RGB, 80 PLUS Bronze Fully Modular ATX Power Supply - Would this maybe be the issue? It's the only thing that's different from my own build...

check in bios for CSM and "above 4g decoding" options
CSM is UEFI's Compatibility Support Module

not sure how modern your board is but these cards are like dinosaur legacy cards now.

still using a 980ti my self :D £700 well spent it seems back in the day

The card is out of the exact same system (other than the PSU) so I wouldn't agree that there is a compatibility issues other than maybe the PSU but that seems unlikely. Also the other working GPU, Quadro P2000 works in my pc but not the new one. Defo an issue with the mobo, PSU or software... Mobo is Asus Z390 A, same as my one which has been using the GPU for the past 12 months

Realised the new PC is running Windows 11 and my one is on 10. Is there a way to revert to 10 from 11? Can't see the option in the recovery section
