Hi

i have been trying to oc my sapphire 5850, currently i have Afterburner, ccc and riva tuner.

Now... afterburner opens fine, i can change the fan speeds, but can't up the clocks,

Riva tuner will only let me adjust monitor settings, whenever i open the app i get a message saying " has not been tested with the current display driver".....so i can't change anything there.

The only thing that lets me change the clocks is ccc, but even then the max it will let you up the clocks to is 775 gpu and 1125 mem

Currently i have the card running at 712 and 1115 with obviously no vaultage change.

AMD clock tool wont run at all so have removed it from my system.

Any help/advice is very appreciated

1. Have you double checked within Afterburner, that you arent doing it wrong? Forgot to hit the apply button, got something screwed up under the profiles tab in settings, that sort of thing?

2. Afterburner is Riva tuner. Word on the Rivatuner forum was that the dude who wrote it is likely under pressure from MSI not to update Rivatuner with the improvements hes written for Afterburner. There is another version looking very similar to Afterburner under a different name written for one of the Nvidia only camp vendors too, so it wouldnt surprise if Rivatuner support for the 4xx series is delayed indefinitely as well.

3. 775/1125 is the max you can get with most (all?) reference cards apart from MSI and Asus without a bios flash. [or are they the only ones allowing volt increases, not mhz increases before unlock?], But you may want to check other recent threads discussing ways of unlocking this even if you cant increase the voltage. Word is, you need to fiddle with ini files. I'd suggest you head to the MSI forums.

Its been about 4-5 months since Afterburner has had the option to allow ANY overclocking and any voltage for any 5850 and you don't need to flash a bios.

Theres an option in the AFterburner program folder, a config file, one of the two bottom options you change from a 0 to a 1, its pretty obvious. Enable it, reopen the program, go into settings and make sure the allow over volting and various other options are enabled, close and reopen the program and you should have full control.

Afterburner is infinately more usable than Rivatuner, which is so painfully badly laid out its needed a "afterburner" type skin to use it for a decade.

EDIT:- went and checked the option in the config file is called "Enableunofficialoverclocking =0" , change it to a 1, then you'll have unlocked overclock limits and ability to overvolt.

Ok thanks for that, will give it a go.

I read a previous thread which described what you just said, but that was just for voltage.

Cheers

I cant open the config file or any other files, when i try i get a box saying open with, it then takes me to a website but not sure what to download, or if i really need to.......if anyone could enlighten me

thanks

It only goes on the web if you tell it too. The next bullet hole down has a "Select a program from the list of installed Yada" option. Notepad f t w.
