GPU Only Working On Two Ports

Hey everyone,
I've had my Sapphire 4850 X2 for a while now, and I've been very happy with it. A friend got a great deal on some second hand Dell monitors from an office where he works, £20 for a 15" swivel flatscreen. So, as I'm a bloke who can't turn a good deal down, I went ahead and bought one. I plugged it into the second DVI port on my GPU, it all booted up fine, worked in the BIOS, fine. It did have some glitches when using Vista though; both screens would sometimes display black and grey lines, and I would have to restart the system. This happened whenever I opened CCC.

That seems to have stopped, so I bought another monitor today. I've plugged it into the third DVI port on my GPU, and I get nothing. Nothing in the BIOS, and CCC can't detect any other monitors. I have tried to update CCC, it failed the first time. I might try installing it fresh. I've checked the monitor with the cable from the other one, and it works fine. The cable is fine too. Any suggestions? Is there a setting to enable the other two ports?

Cheers, Chris.

I'm not sure in this case, but a lot of GPUs can only drive 2 discrete displays a time even tho they sometimes have more ports.

I find that hard to believe. One of its boasting points is the fact that it has 4 DVI ports. I've tried different ports, and only the first two [ones that I am using now] work. I've swapped every way I can. And if it doesn't show in the BIOS then it must be something with the card. I hope I don't have to send it back, will be major hassle :(

Cheers, Chris.

Are you in crossfire mode? try disabling that... obviously not a solution but it might only work with 2 displays in crossfire mode.

Hey guys,
I just did a Google search and you're right Rroff, you have to disable Crossfire mode to use more than two monitors. The thing is, I've disabled it, and I'm still not getting everything. My computer locked as soon as I posted this thread, and when it booted back up I disabled Crossfire mode and it locked again. Still nothing. I'll try enabling and disabling, hopefully the damn thing wont lock on me again. I might try installing the latest CCC, or at least repairing this install. Cheers, Chris.

Did that, it now sees the third monitor, but the display is alwaysa black. Nothing on it. And the light stays amber, so it seems that that the monitor is still in sleep mode. I'm going to try uninstalling CCC and all of the drivers and installing the latest version, as it doesn't install whilst the current ones are installed, I get an error. I'll post back begging for help soon no doubt :(

Cheers, Chris.
