GPU or SSD?

Tough one.

How much money? Enough for a 5850?

Then that.

If its about £150max get a SSD, a 5770 is not enough of an improvement.

Agreed.

The SSD will cut loading times but the GPU will give you better performance when gaming depending on your budget/GPU choice.

5850+SSD then, get a 40gig one for about £90, use your harddisk for large storage.

Or, go all out on a 5870 or the new nvidia cards that are released tonight.

Depends what GPU you currently have tbh. Better GPU will give you improvements in gaming, but an SSD will give you improvements in nearly every task.

I chose SSD (also because I can't upgrade laptop GPUs). :)

I suppose it depends on which tasks you do more and value more.

If you mainly play games, and feel they need some GPU power then investing your £300 in a 5870 (or GTX 470 depending on price and performance) would be a good plan. Also, you could sell on your current GPUs and likely get back £100 total.

If you find you do spend more time in windows, opening up applications and moving files and/or you feel you need the improvement more than gaming does, then I would certianly suggest going for an SSD. With that kind of budget you could get a super-fast OCZ 100GB Vertex LE.

Dunno if this is related but in COD MW 2 i get strange jumps of lag when walking around a map, like its loading them from the HDD. I moved all my steam games to another HDD and still getting this, could this be related to HDD problem or more likely GPU?

I'm still stuck between the two, if only i had more moneys :(

That's plenty, your CPU is a beast too,

Try disabling crossfire in the control panel and play again.

Then try dropping the resolution and settings.

If either of these work you want a better gpu.

It seems to disappear after ive done all this once, like its loading the map for the first time ( i formated not long ago ) so i guess its a HDD thing. what size SSD should i go for it i do?

I think that 64GB is the minimum size I would be comfortable with, but it would certainly would work (enough room for OS, most used apps and 3-4 10GB games). If you have the budget, 100-128GB will give you a bit of breathing room. Especially considering that the blazingly fast OCZ vertex LE is of this size and around your budget, then that would be my suggestion.

I'm thinking about £300 on the budget :P

im pretty sure if you shop around you will find a 5870 for that :D or very close. Tbh there are very little games that SSD will improve FPS its all about loading times :( What would you rather have. The game load 3-7 seconds quicker.. or being able to 98% of games out today with very high settings _ 2AA (or 4AA) with at least 60FPS! at 1920x1200 ;) SSD's are over rated when it comes to Most gaming :(
