Hello everybody,

I hope this is the right forum.

The story:
I have an fx 8150 oc on stock voltage to 4.3 GHz. No problem at all, runs without an error since many months.

Today I wanted to oc my r9 290x from royalace. Everything went well. +6mv, 1100mhz core and 1450 memory.

BUT when I entered 1500mhz on the memory the screen went black.

No problem I thought because I deselected oc on startup in afterburner. But when I tried to turn the pc back on it didn't work. The most of the time I end up with a black screen after posting and the windows loading screen which appears before I get to the login screen. Sometimes though I can access the login screen but as soon as I enter my Pw and press enter the screen goes black again and the pc reboots.

What I did till now:
I deleted my cpu oc. Still the same.
I navigated in cmd through the recovery screen to the afterburner folder and deleted it. Still the same.
Cleared cmos.
Did an sfc /scannow which found errors but could correct them successfully. Sill the same.

I have to add that I can't boot into safe mode. The screen stays black with some green stripes on the top.

What else can I do get my pc back up?

Note: I can't try to boot without a gpu because my mobo does not have displayports in any way.

My system:
Fx 8150 back to stock
R9 290x royalace
8gb DDR3
And mobo: M5A99FX Pro R2. 0

I'm sorry for a messed up text but writing on my phone is bad.

Best regards!

Thanks for the reply.
Rhe problem is I can't get into safe mode. The screen just stays black if I select this option in recovery.
Is there another way to get into some sort of safe mode? I have win10 but just as a Windows 7 upgrade so I don't have a proper win10 CD. But I can get one from a friend if that would help?

I know how I get in the normal way and through recovery mode. But either way the screen stays black with green stripes on top.
Could it really be that the card is dead? Just because of +6mv and a bump of 50mhz on the memory?

Edit: just saw your second post. O try that when I'm back home! Sorry

Okay I have some news.

I did an Sfc /scannow and there were error but windows reported that they Gould be fixed.
I booted in an Ubuntu live session to see if the card would be dead. It worked perfectly fine the whole time during live session.

I also tried what you said, but after I press restart in picture 4 the the pc reboots but the screen stays black.
Do you have any other suggestions?

There is no second bios I think...

I can follow the instructions, but I do not understand what I do after I did that. Do I take a second pc and connect it via Ethernet?

Did that. It did not change anything unfortunately. I could get to the login screen but when I entered my Pw the pc did a reboot. Oh man...

I just can't belive that I killed the card with such a tiny voltage increment.
I will try to repair windows.
If you have suggestions, just post them

I have to Google some for that remote controlled because I really don't now that. I will post back when I also tried that.

Okay I activated it trough cmd but in which state does my fail pc have to be to be able to connect to it? Is the recovery menu enough? Or do I have to try to start windows? Where does he have that required network connection?

Also, how do I get the name of my broken pc?

I will try to google meanwhile but if you have answers right now I would be glad!

//Got the name

Well, you dont know how relieved (dont know if that is the right word) I am. I know you cant be sure but it sounds logical.

I cant seem to get the remote desktop working because the registry bit I edit just gets deleted again and again.

I probably try to safe my files and reinstall. (Today or tomorrow)
I will post back if it worked!

Okay, I finished reinstalling and just installed crimson again and its working perfectly! Thank you guys so much for your help! I was already seeing myself buying a new card the next few days :D

One questions is left: How do I prevent this from happening again when OC'ing my GPU?

Best Regards!

Okay, thank you very much! I will probably just stick with stock settings then and wait for the Rx 480. Hopefully this one will be a good! :D

Best Regards!

The idea was to get a smaller card (hopefully with a zen) for an itx built because Im studying abroad in a few months. I think the smaller 480 will fit the case. My current card is about 30cm and way to long for my desired case.

Thats a really good idea you mentioned! I think I will give it another try next weekend.
Thank you
