GPU price war

It's now come to a GPU price war shame, I have seen from just one month how prices have gone though the roof! And now seems it will only go higher until end of 2022 I have been checking mostly all the Computers online stores like Overclockers UK hoping to get the chance to find the card I want. I wanted the EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra but everywhere have sold out:(

Some of these prices have gone crazy
PNY GeForce RTX 3090 EPIC-X RGB Triple Fan, was £2,299 but today it's now £2,969.99
PNY XLR8 GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming EPIC-X RGB now £3,095.99
EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra was £2,299 but now £2,899

Even at those prices they will still sell, which is the root of the problem. It isn't rocket science really.

Things are worth and will be sold for what people are ultimately prepared to pay - from GPUs to footballers and beyond!

I know, its anti-bots been more aggressive with greed and we aren't fully out of the pandemic

It's frustrating. My lad wants his first PC this year for Christmas and we've had to settle on getting him a gaming setup (desk chair and monitor etc) with the promise we'll hook up the Xbox to it, whilst we wait for it all to calm down.

Not a bad compromise for a soon to be 10 year old it has to be said, but no way am I paying those prices to build a gaming pc that will last him.

You could make the PC without the GPU (making sure the CPU has iGPU) and have him use geforce now/stadia in the meantime.

Unfortunately there is a bigger picture than just GPU prices, although this is quite a good example of the effects.

Basically a graphics card, something to play computer games with high graphics settings, is not essential, it's a luxury item, and quite a niche luxury item at that.

Where as before we could get luxury items quite cheaply and easily, our western way of life is going to change going forward.

I'm not saying we are all going to be starving living in mud huts or zombie apocalypse etc, but such luxuries are going to become very expensive.

Basic living expenses are also going to get more expensive.

We have had our day unfortunately, more so going forward, we are going to have to start getting used to the fact that such things are going to be for the more wealthy, whilst your average Joe is going to need to focus more on keeping the heating on and putting food on the table.

As stated by Budforce pc gaming is becoming more and more of a niche market, consoles can't be ignored for the price/performance they offer and people are making the switch including me

Intel is the new third player. Due to release in Q1 2022.

Ask yourself this, why would Intel bother? Answer NVIDIA and AMD, plus AIB's have gotten so greedy and made so much profit that Intel no longer ignores the GPU space of the market.

With a third player, and despite increased production costs, I think a third player like Intel will make AMD and NVIDIA attempt to compete at lower price points. Note, that intel performance rumours indicate an RTX 3070 TI level of rasterization.

Also, if Microsoft and Sony get their act together in 2022, direct competition from consoles will eat into the gaming market. Sony and Xbox have both sold 22 million units combined since 2020....

I like how you think Intel wont just join in with the current pricing structure ; the msrp is looking to be at least $810 for the high end ARC card.

This would suggest it's not a niche as people suspect when comparing to consoles. However Mobile is the clear winner in the gaming market.

Edit: This suggests there are more PC players in 2021 than console

Q2 for desktop

Nope. It's due to the fact that GPUs are eating their lunch in data centres & they can't compete with just CPUs anymore. The gaming market is corollary to that, since they're doing GPUs anyway they might as well grab the extra $.

You can't compete on price when you have no manufacturing ability. So they won't give these out as bargains because they can't make enough, and will sell out anyway. Until they make GPUs in their own fabs they will not do anything of note as far as pricing goes.

The consoles are no competition for PC only other consoles, hence they're all porting their games to PC & buy console exclusivity when they do rather than total one. A PC simply does more & with all the WFM people are doing they realise they can't rely on just phones/tablets - a PC is a must. Plus most people buy pre-builts or laptops, or have really old systems. It's only a handful of gamers on PC that are really suffering from current prices.

The trouble is everyone and his dog wants a mining card, sorry graphics card I mean, these days. Even big business is investing in crypto rather than traditional currencies and until the lunacy, sorry bull market, changes I don't see anything else changing.

Wait till you see the prices when China invades Taiwan
What!, Taiwan have always been a part of China do the history, anyway this disagreement have to do with Taiwan history. Onda is a Chinese brand that most manufactures Nvidia and AMD based graphics card for only low-end and mid-range gaming PCs. Also the giant TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company)

This is main problem we face now GPU price wars for greed & making profits within the pandemic time shame on them
