hi so this is the situation i am in, currently deciding which hardware i am going to buy to build my first pc, stuck on deciding on the psu, my main options are the corsair rm850w or the rm1000w, the 850w is about £130 and the 1000 is about £150 but goes up to £170 when the places that stock it at £150 run out :

expected specs:

9800x3d
9070 xt
32gb ram
msi MAG X870 TOMAHAWK or MSI MPG B850 EDGE TI

so the 850w has 3 pcie connectors and the 1000w has 4 connectors, the motherboard has an extra connector for pcie so not sure if to connect that and if i have the 850w one i will only have 2 connectors left for the gpu and some of them need 3 pcie's and i dont want to limit myself to only ones that need 2 connectors, also some of the 9070 xt card say different minimum requirements for example the powercolor red devil i think says 900w so not sure if the 850w psu is suitable, so i would prefer to get the 850w to save some money and its easier to get hold of as the 1000w gets going out of stock at the lowest price but not sure about the minimum requirements and the need for more pcie connectors. hope someone can help me sort this out.thanks.

850w is more than enough for the config you are suggesting. The RM850x has plenty of pcie sockets for cpu and graphics cards. Power color always over egg power supply watts required.

Neither would be my choice. If you mean the new RMx series there were initially a lot of failures with these psu's and people still seem to be having problems with them. The new RMe series is not as good as the older version it replaced and has a shorter warranty, 7 years instead of 10 years like the older version. Take a look at the reasonably priced Phanteks Amp GH series instead. The 850w version is Gold rated and costs £105 while the 1000w version (massive overkill for your build) is Platinum rated and costs £129. Both have a 8 year warranty (should be 10 really) and come with very nicely braided cables.

Most higher end 3 pin 907XTs have a max power limit of ~365w, ideally you want to use 3 separate pcie cables to minimise coil whine and maximise stability, but splitting 3 pins over 2 cables is doable.

However, 70XTs perform better with an undervolt therefore you'd be looking at reducing power rather than hitting the max power draw available.

thanks for the replies, prefer sticking to corsair as can find many reviews and have had a look at the phanteks and they look good but not really any reviews and i know there could be a problem with tidying the wires.

but goes up to £170 when the places that stock it at £150 run out :
Personally, I consider that £170 is too expensive for the RMx. It does perform well in reviews, but I'd rather have Antec's HCG Pro (derived from Seasonic's Vertex) over the RMx.

In answer to your question, 850 is fine for the 9070 XT, but keep in mind that you might see this PSU through many years and multiple builds.
