im about to buy a 3090 or 6900xt

i have a 600w psu, what PSU do i really need to go with it
the 6900xt says 850 but i know people with 750's and there fine

the 3090 tdp is 350w, however its transient spikes can hit 550w
if your psu cannot cope with these spikes then your pc should shutdown/reboot

What's the point in buying a PSU for the 3090 when your next GPU upgrade in a few years could need even more power? You made that mistake when you bought the 650w.

I'd go for an 850w PSU with a good warranty and it will last several future GPU upgrades.

I use a 750w PSU to power my RX 6600. It's overkill but I'll be able to buy any GPU I want next gen without touching the PSU.

If you're willing to spend a little more, I bought one of these- https://www.overclockers.co.uk/seas...w-80-gold-modular-power-supply-ca-07x-ss.html currently OOS, but I imagine there'll be more due...
Plenty of power, should cope with any future upgrades. Runs my 7900XTX without a hitch so will cope with just about anything else!

Obviously, a 750 or 850 will do you. But if you wanted a bit more in reserve for later...

with the games i play i expect the 3090 to last me 5 years

what im hearing is 750 will work 850 is better. this gpu should last me 5 years unless it dies. all pick up a RM850w
thanks

Agreed, the be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 850W at only £125 is cheaper than the Corsair RM 850 as well unless there is a bargain somewhere. My choice at that power though would be the MSI MPG A850G at £130. It has nicer cables (I hated the PSU end connectors on the be quiet that I briefly had) plus if you leave a review and link it back to MSI you can get a load of Steam credit (I get $50 when I did it for my current motherboard). Even if the Corsair was cheaper you would have to spend £19 on the type 4 12vHPWR cable to bring it up to ATX 3.0 spec. For a high end set up though I would be looking at a 1000w unit as power draw seems to be increasing with each new generation of cpu's and gpu's so the 1000w version of the be quiet or the MSI would be a good call for future proofing. The MSI is a bargain at it's current price plus you get the Steam credit as well if you do a review which is well worth doing.

Get a decent PSU and you'll likely never need to replace it. I bought a 1600W EVGA G2 and it's powered 295x2 x2 quadfire, Titan Pascal's in SLI and now my 4090. The PSU is pretty much the only PC component that
can genuinely be future proof. Go big or go home.
