GPU recomendations

So me being the fool I am with my impulsive buying, put together a Ryzen build with a msi and corsair ecosystem.

th msi 2080 super seahawk x was loud and hot, smelt like it was burning and when playing any game it would drop down to 14fps at 95c. Pump failure i bet, anyway that is rma etc.

With the nvidia 3 series coming out soon (when?) is it worth just accepting defeat with my ryzen paperweight (no onboard graphics), sticking with my spare gaming laptop and waiting for 3's or do i get another msi 20 series gpu then trade in?

Do msi do a trade up program like evga?

Think only EVGA do the step up program. If it was me, I'd be tempted to stick a 1660 super in it for 6 months and then see what's what.

Edit: Depending on how good your gaming laptop is of course.

well, my laptop has a 2080 in it but the intel i9 heatfest throttles so bad the gpu can't even reach its full potential.

I could probably sell the laptop and get a gpu and basic lappy for work? I just know gpu's are overpriced compared to what they will be in 4 months time

I've never been keen on gaming laptops for this very reason. If you're considering doing that, then sell the gaming laptop, buy the basic laptop for work and a GPU off the members market before then waiting it out.

i splurged on a 1080ti for £450. purely because its better than anything else for the price. I'll keep it as a backup as i bet it'll handle low res games in another 5 years

im sat on money waiting to buy a gpu too tried a 5600xt it wouldn't flash to 14gbps so was useless to me may as well buy a cheaper 1660 super vs a 12gbps 5600 xt
seems like we might have a long wait though 8gb 570 or rx 580 8gb at the right price seems the only option if buying new , waste of money buying 2060-2080/5700 now that could go towards the new shinys whenever they are out.

rx 580 8gb £150 or less

but they are not much faster if at all than the rx 470/480 or old gen nvidia equivalent

anything else is throwing money in the bin, but twist my arm and i might buy a 2060 for £220 or a 5700 xt for £299.

can get a 2nd hand 8gb 480/580 for £80-90 on the MM for sure - which is what i would do in your position. It'll do High/Ultra at 1080 in pretty much anything.

Source: bought an 8gb 480 for £80 on the MM and play at 1080 on High/Ultra with a Ryzen 3600.
