What with the recent news about the memory shortages and 30% increase by their manufacturers I guess I should get a new card sooner rather than later.

I was originally looking at the MSI 1070 Gaming X but currently out of stock on those but I was wondering if folk here could post a kind of top 3 for 1070/1080 Series Cards.

Max £600 so that will exclude a Ti edition.

This will currently be used for a 1080p monitor and a 3570k processor but I am looking to upgrade my monitor and by the end of the year I will also have an LG C7 55" as well which will be connected.

Currently have a MSI 670GTX Twin Forzr.

Thank you for taking the time to read and any additional time to post some recommendations.

Edit
Forgot to mention I would prefer to stick with nvidia, personal preference of mine.

I recently purchased a GTX1080 myself and I'm very pleased with it. I don't think you will see much difference in actual performance with any GTX1080 therefore if I were you try to get a card which offers at least a three year warranty, has good cooling and isn't noisy. Prices do seem to have gone up a little at the moment, but I'm sure you will be happy with whatever card you decide on.

I was thinking about the MSI 1080 Gaming X if they are not getting anymore 1070's in but if it increases in price at all before I get it I wont be getting it, would be nice if OCUK could give a heads up when they were going to increase the prices to go along with the price increase statement thingy I saw in another thread.

I sent a message off to OCUK team from that chat thingy so I will wait and see what they say on Monday.

If this memory cuttage thing is going to make OCUK increase their prices it would be nice but unlikely if they could give a bit of warning.

Edit
I was also thinking about the Asus Strix 1080 card for the same price as the MSI but thought I would ask the folk on here their opinions on a few as I have not kept up to date.

Nice card I was tempted to get that card I liked the MSI Gtx1080 Armor was also on my list as about a month ago it could be purchased at a good price and was supposed to run cool and quietly only the lack of a back plate put me of that one, which I wanted. In the end I went for the Gigabyte 1080 windforce purely because a month ago you could pick this card up cheap but not now.

Its funny I had saved the £450 I needed for the 1070 Gaming X but when I came back to site it had vanished and wasnt even listed anymore but now its relisted but out of stock so I am confused lol.

I was waiting for the 1080 to come to around £500 but I don't think they will anymore.

Any significance in having a backplate ?

I believe these high-end cards cooling & shrouds puts stress on the PCB that between the heat generated and the weight of the cooler it could warp the PCB. The backplate was suppose to add rigidty to the board, in some cases it helps with cooling acting as a heatsink depending on brand & model as well as it looks good xD

As for card suggestion you can find Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1080 GDDR5 8GB OC WF3 for around £495

Ah I see, thank you for the clarification.

I think they're all way over priced at the minute for the performance they offer, the only one not to suffer with silly price ramping is the 1080ti, for gaming I wouldn't pay 1070/1080 money for what you get.

If you can find a 1070 for £350 this is what I'd go with.

Looking back to 2013 I paid £400 pounds for my GTX780 I only paid £459 for a GTX1080 recently so I think with the obvious performance improvement, it's not a bad deal at all.

I really like the Nvidia MSI Gaming X cards - very good performance with excellent cooling and extremely quiet as well.

If you're considering an MSI Gaming X 1080 then have a look at the updated "Plus" model with the faster memory. It gives a nice little performance boost.

Well if the memory shortage and 30% increase in price is going to happen they wont be going down any more.
