Hi all

I was wondering what GPU would everyone recommend for gaming at 2560 * 1600?
My plan was to for VEGA and then decide between a 1080ti and vega but do I really need
something so powerful for this resolution, I wont be getting 4k monitor till next year and by then
most likely something even more powerful would be out.

I would prefer a NVIDA card to be honest, I was looking at something like a 1060 6GB but would a 1070 be better?

thanks

Depending on what you've already got and whether it's a Freesync/Gsync monitor might be best to wait for Vega.

At that res definitely need a 1070 and up class GPU. Although that depends on how much IQ you want.

1070 / 980Ti handles 1440p. You will need 1080 performance for anything higher.

Using a 980Ti @ 1440p myself while waiting on Vega. It's the Freesync 2 panels that have my interest.

I don't get why you would wait for vega but only have a budget for a 1060/70?

1070 can handle 1440p quite well with odd game being testing for it. 1080 is fine at this res. So 1600p would be slightly more demanding. 1060 would fall at this res, 1070 will be minimum id aim for but personally id go for a 1070 or higher. Vega will likley beat a 1070 anyway and 1080 and compete with a 1080ti so if you cant wait then thats what your looking at.

Thanks all for the replies much appreciated.

Hi

Was originally planing to get a 4k tv and use it as a monitor and decided to wait for VEGA release before committing to a graphics card. But i have decided against buying a 4k tv this year and will wait till next year and though i should just buy a temporary graphic that I can use to game with my current 30" dell (its a very old monitor way before Gsync ect). By the advice given a 1080 seems to be a safe bet but I might was well just get a 1080ti as there is not much price difference, given that, I might was well just wait for VEGA and then decide between that and a 1080ti.

Never knew gaming at 2560x1600 required such a powerful card, really thought i could get away with a 1060/1070 but it would seem 1080/1800ti type card is a safer bet. I am assuming 1080ti by itself is not completely adequate for 4k gaming?

Well i guess it depends where you would want to stand graphically. A 1060 you would be looking at mostly medium settings with odd settings possibly on high to maintain 60FPS at this res. 1070 would be everything on high and a 1080 would be able to max most games just the odd newer games which may require you to tone down some settings to maintain 60FPS.

Personally i think high settings which is usually the one below "Max settings" is the sweetspot. This would be around a 1070 area to maintain 60FPS. A 1060 would be just cutting it short tbh. Even if you overclocked it, you would need to drop odd settings to medium to try and stop it dropping too much below 60FPS. However some games are fine such as Prey! High settings at 1440p and a 1060 overclocked can sit nicley at 60FPS most of the time. 1600p is going to tax it more.

GTX1080Ti or wait for Vega. Had GTX1080 @ 2190 and couldn't cut it at 2560x1440 on max out graphics with 2x AA.
