GPU replacement suggestions

At the worst time possible my long beloved Gigabyte GTX 1070 8Gb appears to have bitten the dust (frustratingly almost working but still gives no display).

While I wait for RTX 3070 prices to return to earth, does anyone have good suggestions for cards that are somewhat comparable to the 1070, but aren't at stupid prices?

I've seen things like the GT 1030 or GTX 1050Ti looking somewhat reasonable, but not sure on how they compare to my old 1070 performance wise.

hey, do you want to try to repair the damn thing?
Fans spinning no display, if u lucky it might be an easy fix, but also it can be dead gpu silicon. if u feel like it, I can give u free diagnostics, and if easy fix then it won't cost much, we talking 10-20£ + shipping. I'm located in Redhill, just outside London.
Thanks but I've done doing a lot of diagnostics already. Swapping cable, swapping output ports, reapplying thermal paste, cleaning out any dust, complete reinstall of windows and clean install of up to date drivers + trying a bunch of old ones from before it went kaput. Its fans will spin and I can even see it in device manager in Safe Mode & using my MBs iGPU but it just refuses to give out any signal, I suspect a component of the board has gone or some solder connector has cracked, I'm currently arranging for it to get sent to shop to see if they can find the fault and fix it.

I am afraid all the replacement cards are at silly prices at the moment. The cards you mention have much worse performance than your 1070 and you would need to play some titles at 720p on the 1030
. Having said that if you play some less demanding or older games a 1030 will do ok in some, check youtube to see if there are any honest reviews of cards you are interested in, it might be worth checking a few reviews as some might present as fake
Thanks, I figured it would be like that, i'll have a look at some comparator sites and reviews. Ideally id like to keep 1080p gaming ability but a lot of games I play aren't that GPU heavy (strategy games mostly), thankfully I'd finished up Cyberpunk 2077 before my 1070 died.

Buy a new GPU for a stupid price & let it mine during downtime, so you can "make back" some of the cost. Otherwise it will be a long wait. Nvidia is launching GPUs that are gimped for mining soon (but gaming unaffected) so maybe keep an eye on that also, they should be cheaper compared to what's going on atm.
It's tempting for sure, but I'm not certain I want to bother with mining tbh, especially given my PC is my bedroom and i don't fancy trying to sleep over the summer with the GPU fans blaring all night. Had read about those new GPUs but we will see if they manage to come out at reasonable prices, I suspect someone will crack their firmware and we'll be back to square one though.

Guys if he's looking at a GT 1030 or GTX 1050Ti I'm gonna make a guess here and say that his budget probably doesn't stretch to nearly a bag of sand!!!

:D
It's not that I cant afford the current prices, its just paying triple MSRP for a card is something that irritates me on principle, and I really don't want to feed the scalpers if i can help it.
