GPU sits to close to K2 (CPU cooler) fans

My GPU sits too close to the K2's fans. I would like to know the best way to seperate them by around 5 mms or so. I don't want to put the GPU in the other slots because of the loss in performance. I would just put like a stick or something between them just so the middle of the K2's fans doesn't sit so close to the GPU.

the K2 is currently sucking hot air from the GPU, and the 140mm other fan is sucking that air and blowing it up into the two fans on top who are also sucking the heat. heat is being moved upwards.

here is an image of what it looks like rn: http://i.imgur.com/3ASrhUf.jpg

because it sits so close the fans rattle and vibrate

In order of easiness/cost

Change cooler orientation
Get a thinner profile fan for the bottom
Get a different cooler
Get a different motherboard
Get a different GPU

whats the best fan do you think for this setup? just has to suck air really well in tight area.
Even if you replace the 25mm fan with a slim fan for the sake of having a slight gap, it's still not going to help much (in terms of cooling) as it would still struggle to get air.

I agree with the suggestion of change cooler orientation.

There are 2 options here:

1 - Remove the 2 stock fans and replace them with a single TY-147. It does a better job than the stock fans do.

2 - Rotate the cooler so it pulls in from the front of the case and vents out the back. This would be the better option allow the air to travel in the same direction when using the 'Positive Pressure' setup.

#2 has worked for me in the past, I'd recommend it. You're RAM will be fine as its low profile!

But but but.... Ok will change orientation later tonight. Haven't done this in a while, any install guides for this particular sideways orientation because If I remember I think the only way I got it to sit was vertically due to the retention bracket

I pretty sure almost all K2 cooler I've seen are mostly sideway orientated.

The socket and the 4 holes are an extra square, so I don't see why it would mount vertical but not horizontal.

Look what a quick google got me:

Thanks guys just saw these posts but it took like a few minutes was very simple and very fast (except those damn retention brackets for the fans
&&;!;&).

Slightly off topic what temps should I see an i5 4670k at 4.4ghz? 65 good on max prime? What's the safe highest temp before I turn down my OC? And what are great HSF fans? Should I get two TY 147s and use those? Ideally just need something to push loaaaads of air as I can reduce noise when not in game using fab controllers so noise not an issue

65 is good yep. I have a phanteks ph-tc12dx and prime gets to about the same, though i've only oc'd mine to 4.3ghz with 1.215v.

80-90ish probably the highest you should go for, but always aim for lower. iirc it starts to throttle about 100C

65 is good temp (but I think the temp would be even better once you orientated it properly...would most likely drop to 62-63C).

As for temp, I wouldn't worry too much unless it's exceeding 75C. But with that said, it would be good to aim for staying below 70C as standard.

You'll see maybe 1-3°C difference with an additional TY-147, which isn't really worth it.
Might help with pulling a bit more air through the case perhaps...

Basically, one of those in the middle will match, if not beat the two stock fans.

I wrote that post when I had changed the orientation, I was just commenting on howow it was with the new orient :D it used to be around 70c before do excellent improvements. As for HSF what would u recommend

Edit just saw new post: 1-3c? Hahah not paying a tenner for one damn Celsius!

Which fans could I swap to overall lower it by 5-10c? I think my sig has my fans in it

I have same issue with 140mm Noctua cooler mounted the normal way.

Clears taller memory but blocks primary PCI-E (CPU) slot so need use the PLX slot (still 16x).

Noctua are bringing out coolers more offset up and to the left to clear slots and memory more.

I would have same issue with your K2 cooler.

Edit just saw new post: 1-3c? Hahah not paying a tenner for one damn Celsius! The temp will lower in British weather anyway, it's subny and really nice right now so I believe it'll definetly go lower once the rain kicks in lol

oh dear....... turn the cooler around the other way so it's venting out the back, but without seeing a photo of the rest of your case, you could have other problems as well !!!!!!

build your rig from scratch with only one thing in mind :- how do i vent this case, because so far i've not seen one case that's perfect for cooling, every single one needs modifying

mine is 55 degrees on max Prime stress test, but my set up is heavily modified and also has an older Chip...... i love cooling, it's the best part of overclocking

i want watercooling next time around, but i still fancy an air cooler cause they look so cool

I would think his cooler is at least as good as any AIO unit so he may end up warmer.

Some air coolers can better them and will not leak someday.

I would rather pay the little extra for a new unit after the last thread with issues from the last batch of refurbs here a while back.
