Hey guys,
my 1080TI suddenly stopped working.

I'm not accustomed to the insides of a GPU, so could you guys tell if something went wrong ?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry mate but your GPU is toast. Looks like some kind of short that popped one of the components. Didn't you smell the magic smoke?

@drakulton
Thanks for your reply.
No, I didn't smell anything. It just went off all of a sudden.

So no way to rescue this oldtimer ?
Could you tell me what went wrong or what exactly happened ?

How about soldering though ?

You need special equipment to assess the damage, like a bench, probes and microscope.
The problem you have by the looks of the picture is the PCB appears quite badly damage so there is more to it than replacing a broken component you are feasibly dealing with melted tracks.

1080Ti performance wise is broadly equivalent to a 5700XT, so you're looking at a £300 eBay replacement or wait for next gen (3-4months)

@JediFragger
I think I'm gonna wait for a completely new build with a RTX 4090 or something. I don't know yet.
Can't compromise anymore. 20 years in the can, I wanted manigot..I compromised. I ate grilled cheese off the radiator. No more.

Thanks for the help and input, guys.

Looks like the repair was good but the same problem remained, the other two fets look like they blew a hole through the PCB.

That's a gona, its irreparable, RIP GTX 1080Ti.

The second picture is of the other side of the PCB, the fet blew a hole right through it.

There are repairers in the UK, looking at this I would think it is too far gone to be worth considering as they charge a diagnosis service then go on from there, it starts out at about £50-£60.

I've never seen a repair done on a blown board (i.e. where the MOSFET has blown through the layers) without it involving a donor board.

Happy to learn something new though, but it looks unfeasible to repair even with one.

Oouf, blown vrm on the memory power stage, it's the same fet that blew on that other 1080ti I have here but this one wasnt so bad but is still terminal for the card. Honestly going there with that intensity is unlikely to be an easy save if at all, especially with a giant hole in the board. Got some better pics?
