I was half expecting them to start using sandpaper!

Distilled water...OK, that makes sense for harsh cleaning on a card that's probably dead anyway.

Washing up liquid?
Scrubbing it with a hard brush?
Soaking it in "cleaning petrol"? I assume that's a petroleum-based solvent, probably what we'd call white spirit.
Scrubbing it with a hard brush again?

Eh?

On the other hand, it worked. That implies that we're wrong in our assessment of the cleaning methods.
