GPU Temp

hey guys,

i was thinking about doing a bit of OC'ing on my gcard, but theres one thing that puzzles me, how can you see what your gpu temp is? thanks.

ah ok, then how do you safely overclock a gpu without potentially melting it?

If you have an ATI card install the catalyst control centre.

yeah im using the 7.9 drivers, dont see anywhere in CCC that shows temps...

Well first off, which graphics card do you have? Pretty much all modern cards have a temp sensor on them.

im on an x1600 XT

And you won't ever see it cause your card doesn't have a temp sensor.

However, searching round the internet, it seems that some manufacters cards do have temp sensors although they won't show up in ATI control panel ever.

Try ATI tools, rivatuner or everest (I find this gives the details of every temp sensor in your system). If they don't show the temp of your card then you haven;t got a sensor I'm afraid.

As for overclocking, your card will show artifacts or hang well before you get to a temp to damage it (unless you try a stupid overlock in the first place, take it in small steps and test often). I wouldn't get too hung up about your gpu temps.
