Had a previous question asking a similar question, building first pc and gpu options, heard that there might be new nvidia cards out at the start of next year and there might be an announcement about new amd cards then so do i buy now or wait, if i wait do i buy a second hand card now or a new lower tier card now, if they do come out at the start of next year will probably not but straight away so this card i buy now will need to last at least 6-12 months. budget: no idea but not excessive under £400 with the ability to sell on later. current potential build: 9800x3d msi b850 edge ti 64gb ram will game at 1440p. dont really want any that use the 16 pin connector.thanks.

There's always going to be something that's "coming soon" or about to be announced. If you're going new then your best best for £400 would be a 9060XT, but the 9070 would be a noticeable improvement if you can find an extra £100.

What are you using the PC for? A 9800x3d and 64GB ram with a £400 graphics card seems off-balance. If it's just for gaming I'd happily switch to a 9700x and throw the extra £150 at the GPU.

use is gaming and various other tasks like multitasking and video editing as i run many things at once so i need the 64gb(currently using 32gb and it isnt enough),it needs to last as long as possible as current pc has lasted 8 years, i have the budget for the 9070 xt but not sure if its the right time to spend it all or should i wait and get a lower priced card to last say 6-12 months, put off the nvidia cards by hearing and watching about thr 16 pin connector problem.

IMO 16pin is more of a problem than it should be, but less of a problem than everyone's making it out to be. But that's a different conversation.

wait and get a lower priced card to last say 6-12 months

And then what? Sell it and buy something again? That'll end up being more expensive than just buying the beefier card now. Any saving you'll make by waiting on the bigger card or any performance benefit you'll gain from a next gen card will be heavily offset by the loss you'll incur selling your 6 month old card. "Man maths" is dangerous.

Like I say, there'll always be something new & shiny on the horizon and in 6~12 months you'll just be asking the same question again. There is no future-proof in PCs. Just buy the best you can afford and enjoy it until it stops.

If you don't have anything that you can use right now and need to buy a stopgap, I agree with the above that you're better off just buying the card you want now. £400 is a lot to spend when an extra £100 gets you a 5070 or 9070 which are stronger, higher tier cards.

If you don't want the 16 pin, you'll need to buy the 9070 or 9070 XT. There were 4070 cards with an 8-pin, but I'm not aware of any 5070 or higher that use them.
