The 'Yet Another What GPU?' thread. As per title looking for a card that'll run CivVI, with everything maxed, at 3440 x 1440 with the main requirement being low power draw and cool & quiet, not something that runs at bazzillion FPS whilst turning my room into a sauna.

Budget is basically open. Current thinking is a Asus Dual RTX 4060 simply due to, all other things considered, the low TDP and so the cool and quiet part of things is ticked. Have concerns that older or sub-£200 cards might struggle, especially late game, at this res. But happy to be proven wrong. Did wonder about 3050, or even 3060 but strugging to find cards that suggst they'll be as quiet as my first choice, so asking here if anyone has better suggestions?

Thanks in advance

3050 Might struggle a little at 3440x1440 based on the scores here:

but literally anything higher up the GPU tiers than that should be ok - just a case of reading reviews to find noise information

Nice - thanks! You've pretty much confirmed how i had undestood things. Actually used that specific TechPowerUp cards review to start setting the baseline. As you say now it's just a case of detective work to confirm the quiet card.

The Asus looks good for low noise based on the review here: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/asus-geforce-rtx-4060-dual-oc/37.html

Depends ultimately how much you want to spend, as RX 6600 is still pretty quiet, performs acceptably for Civ 6 and is ~£200 (although personally it'd be better value around the £170 mark)

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £203.99 (includes delivery: £3.99)

Apart from the loss of 4GB of VRAM, the 4060 has better power consumption and efficiency than the previous gen, but the quiet would depend on the quality of the cooler and the presence/intensity of coil whine.

If you intend to game at 1440p UW into the future, I'd personally be looking at a 4070 or better, since the 4060 is going to be insufficient in the near term and the 4060 really isn't a great price for the performance. @keef247 might share be willing to share their experiences of the card here.

Nice cheap low power card: Sparkle Intel Arc A380 Genie, 6GB GDDR6 ~£125. I have not tried one of these cards so have no experience with them, I just want one, don’t know why.

Sadly they are a long way behind even the 3050 - so won't give anything like playable frame rates even for CivVI at 3440x1440

Late game in Civ VI is much more CPU reliant than GPU as its the sheer number of things happening that need processing that slow it down.

Other than upcoming Civ 7, not planning on any new games, and 4070 is above budget tbh. Maximum spend would be on the 4060. But now quite liking the idea about a RX 6600. Hadn't considered that. That's cheap enough to resell in a couple of years if circumstances change, seems to be reasonably efficient, etc. Have to go read some more reviews :D
