I'm currently running my CX48 with a GTX1080 @ 1440p, which looks fine TBH. What I'd like is smoother frames but unfortunately the 1080 doesn't support adaptive sync with this screen.

I was considering an RTX3070 as a stop gap until I see how the 4000 series shapes up, however was wondering if an AMD card that is on a par or sightly better than the 1080 would be a better choice?

Budget of around £250 for a second hand AMD card, or just go for the 3070?

If you could crab a VII for that would be a good choice . No clue what they are fetching though.
I'm not sure what you mean by a VII?

I've picked up a 5700XT and hoping it can play nice with Freesync on the CX48 as I'm happy enough with the 1440p, I just need frame syncs. :)

Get a 3070 fe while they are in stock at the nvidia store for £469 and don't waste your time on other cards as you will always come back to the 3070fe and it has hdmi 2.1, dlss better rtx than amd and g-sync which that tv can do too (make sure to have latest LG firmware on CX48 to use G-sync). Other options are a waste of time with that tv unless you go 3080 fe which are not in stock and sell for £649. The 3070 FE is basically a 2080ti with 8GB and better rtx on the 3070, it will be a big jump from the 1080 and noticeable.

Also other option if you want a 3080 12GB card for £799.99 here :- https://www.overclockers.co.uk/inno...dr6x-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-08f-in.html

Everything else new is a lot more and not worth it, also make sure the 3080 12GB fits your case it's a large card if you decide on that.

This is just a stop gap until 4000 series, mate. The 5700XT was half the price of the 3070 so it will tide me over for the few months until new cards release. :)

Ahaa ok, I don't see the 4000 series being anything special sadly and all the hype is not making sense and even the new 4070 specs rumoured are saying 20% faster maybe than 3070 and it's the 4090ti,4090,3080ti and 3080 that will get the bigger increase but yet to see really what, guessing 30% as usual on 4080 and maybe more on the 4090ti and 4090 but again new msrp for sure for these coming cards and maybe a psu upgrade too.

I'm ok for PSU, as I've got a 1000w unit already. I do agree that the 4000 series might not be all that, and in that case I'll try to grab a second hand 3080.

It's a bit of a gamble, TBH.
