The current rig i have is a Q6600 clocked at 3.4GHZ, Asus P5Q Deluxe, 4GB OCZ Reaper Ram, X-Fi Titanium - Fatal1ty Professional Series 7.1 Sound, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and a fossil of a gpu called the 2400, the GPU is only a temp one lol
Anyway i play at 1400x900 and want everything ramped up to the max which with the current GPU is just not possible.
Any info appreciated :)

If you want everything maxed, including shadows, you'll need a beefy CPU more than a GPU

The GPU you have is dog awful though! Something like a 460 like the guy above says, or a 570 if you feel you got a bit more budget. Anything higher is overkill (the way I like it)

The GTX460 already has sufficient GPU power to max out WoW. However keep in mind that each instance of WoW (DX11 max) can eat around 1GB vram, so if you plan to run two instances concurrently you'd better get a 2GB card.

You'll get quite a boost just switching to using the DX11 codepath with a 460 or other dx11 gpu -
We'll start with graphics--specifically, the fact that Cataclysm includes support for DirectX 11. It's still not clear exactly what Blizzard did to optimize this particular code path, but enabling DX11 support on a platform with a compatible graphics card has the potential to enable significant performance gains on both AMD- and Nvidia-based boards.

On ultra settings at 1920x1080 on kazzak pvp server in ogrimmar the capital city at peak time I hover in the 30's for FPS. That is ofc also using 4x AA along side all of the ultra presets. Wow is a very demanding game on ultra in crowded areas. A 460 at your res should sort you out nicely as long as you don't go mental with the AA settings.

I have a strong feeling you getting as low as 30fps is not because your GTX580's struggling, but even with your overclocked i5 2500K your GTX580 is still getting bottleneck, due the the damn game only using mainly just 1 core. You should have a look at the GPU usage on your GTX580 when you are there again :D

Its quite possible I guess. I've heard putting the game on an SSD does wonders for it as well but sadly my SSD doesn't have enough space for the cataclysm install.

I think you'll find the Game is the thing struggling not your CPU's and GPU's the network code alone causes massive FPS drops.

P.S Wow likes nvidia much more the ATI :(
