So I got a GTX260 to replace my GTS250, cos I needed a double precision GPU to run milkyway cuda. (that worked - my rac went from 200 to 2000 in a day :D)

The 250 came with a little app called smartdoctor which allowed the clocks to be tweaked at will, seemed to work OK I just turned the shaders up all the way

The 260 has a different app called SPAtune which only seems to have three settings overclock, standard and green. The OC shader setting shows 1476 on gpu-Z.

I have seen some mentions on here of other utils to clock GPUs, could anyone advise please if they think I could use something else better to turn up the heat?

I personally use 'EVGA Precision' which is compatible with any make not just EVGA. Gives you sliders for Core, Shader, Memory and Fan speed which are all i need atm.

RivaTuner is pretty good. However, it has an absolutely bloody awful interface that was clearly designed by a blind autistic caveman with one arm.

It is quite confusing. I seem to remember that the method for setting up fan profiles is especially ridiculous! It is quite good as a 'set-it-and-forget-it' overclocking tool, though.

I use evga precision (works on other brands too), edit the gpu bios to reflect stable clocks using nibitor then flash the card to the new frequencies using nvflash. I change operating systems a lot, so software overclocking is inconvenient.

Thanks for the recommendations, evga precision does the trick. I don't seem to be able to be as heavy with the throttle with this 260, but ho hum I'll crank it up little by little to find the edge.

As there's been hardly any work on Seti, MilkyWay, Rosetta and Einstein it been difficult to see yet if I've gained much from the swap.

my GTX260 is running at 525/1515/999 at the minute (simular to biffa)
You usually need to drop the core to up the shadders (keeps temps and wattage lower too)

Core clock does affect the smaller WU but shaders (number off and speed) are key
