GPU update

I have two systems that I want to upgrade the GPU.
1. Antec 1200 case
Core i7 920 @2.67
Gigabyte EX58 UD5
6GB ram
Corsair H70 water cool
XFX HD5850
Win7 x64

2. Antec P180
Core i7 930
Gigabyte EX58 UD3
6 GB Ram
Corsair H80 water cool
XFX HD 5850
Win 7 x64

Now both of these GPU's have served me well but it's time for an upgrade. I was almost settled on R9 290 but reading more about it, it seems that Nvidia are at the front (apart from the r9 295x2). The price difference is quite a bit higher considering I will be buying two cards. Any opinions of which to choose and what brands? All suggestions welcome
Oh, I'm also running Corsair HX1000w PSU's on both machines

rigs are still pretty nice... i would opt for second hand cards myself, save a bit of money... something like a 770ish would be nice

If they release a Ti version of the 960 that could be just the ticket. Any chance of getting one 970 now then waiting and seeing what 960 range brings? Or do they deffo have the same cards in both machines.?

What kind of games do you play ? An AMD R9 290 (if you can find them at around £220) will give you more than enough power to play anything at 1080p and even 1440p.

Depends also on what your budget is. Everyone wants to get the newest and fastest, but most people have budget constraints :)

Couldn't you Crossfire the HD5850s on one and buy a GTX970 for the other?

A decent option, the 5850s crossfired should still be fairly reasonable, and you could hold off on upgrading that one until the new AMD cards are released and see what performance they bring.

I still have 5870s in Crossfire and it's still awesome! I'd like to get a GTX980 but this doesn't really struggle too much with anything still even at 1080p :/ lol

Nines11 it struggles with BF4 if I put textures on High or Ultra, if I run textures on Medium I can still run all other settings on ultra and still get 100+fps. If I hit vram limit on any other game I just lower texture setting and it's fine
