Hi,

I have a Ryzen 3700X CPU with a Geforce 1070 which is 6 years old now and in need of an upgrade, I'm looking to upgrade my GPU and wondering what you lot suggest? :)

I havea 1080p monitor with 240hz refresh rate and am fine with this, probably won't get a higher resolution montior any time soon.

I found a refurbished MSi GeForce RTX 3080 Ventus 3X OC 10GB GDDR6X for around £500, do you think that's overkill?

Open to other suggestions!

Many thanks!

Hi.

For £500 you can get a brand new 7800xt with 3 year warranty which performs the same as the 3080 depending on game unless your set on Nvidia. Ray tracking Nvidia are kings.

I'd get a 4070, you can nearly buy one for £500 and it will have the full warranty.

For 1080p? Yeah. If you want to match the framerate? No.

A more modest upgrade would be a 6700 XT for around £300-£350.

Thanks for the reminder, looks like it will just about be ok, cutting it close, I have the "Corsair Carbide 500R Midi Tower Case".

Little worried about the 650W PSU bought in 2012, but according to PC Part picker ill be ok, I saw that 800W is recommend, will see how I go, can get another PSU if needed.

I'm in a similar predicament. Got an 7900 XTX on the way and a 800W PSU is recommended. I've got a 750W PSU, but it does have 3x PCI-e power connectors at least.

There's a review on bit-tech and it says that you have 316mm with the hard drive caddy and 452mm without. The Nitro is 320mm. I'm not sure where they got their information from, or how accurate it is, so I'd double check that yourself, but on the face of it, it looks like it won't fit.

Thanks, I'll remove the HDD caddy if I need to.
