Nvidia FE GPUs are staying in stock for quite a while (like a couple of days) atm, so I'd go for one of them. Eg the rtx 3070 FE seems to be in stock atm for a similar price to that 3060.

There is a Telegram group tracking the stock, but as it's not going immediately like it used to you don't need that, can just navigate through the Nvidia website to find them. If you want to wait for something like a 3060 Ti then may be worth signing up - 'FE PartAlert' on Telegram. Seems like more stock comes in roughly every few weeks.

For 1440p gaming a 3070 would be great, probably overkill for 1080p, where a 3060 Ti would do a good job while saving a bit of money. A 3060 would be good for 1080p too, but with FEs being a bit more available atm I don't think the pricing makes sense atm (there is no FE version of the 3060).

Only thing is to make sure your PSU is up to the job (eg at least 650W for a rtx 3070) and other parts of the pc won't be holding it back.

Also note it could be worth waiting for the next gen if you're not desperate to upgrade right now, but then who knows exactly what release date will be and what pricing or availability will be like.

Edit: an AMD 6600XT or 6650XT would be a good 1080p option too (and both outperform a rtx 3060 on average), although for the price I'd prefer to try and get an Nvidia FE card.

What is your opinion? Anything else to upgrade? I feel it’s mainly the GPU I want to upgrade at the moment but I’m open to upgrading other parts especially if the GPU is under £500

Thanks again

Yeah I'd do the same - get an RTX 3070 FE, and upgrade cpu to a 5600 - should just be a straightforward bios update and drop it in.

You only list a hard disk above, so if you are actually running Windows and games from a hdd then getting an ssd would be a top priority.

I have a SSD as well sorry!

I’ve purchased a RTX 3070 FE and the AMD 5600 thanks to all of your advice.

Now it’s just a case of building the confidence to do the actual upgrade. I’ve built 1 PC before but nothing crazy. Hoping it’s nothing too difficult to install the new GPU and processor

Starting to think I maybe need to upgrade my motherboard to one with a PCIe 4.0 slot?
I wouldn't worry about pcie 4.0 yet while current cards don't come close to saturating gen 3.0

Been using a RTX 3080 on a B450 for 18 months now with no performance issues.

Instead of upgrading a board spend on the next tier up of GPU if you have extra cash.
