I have decided that it is probably time to upgrade my gpu, I currently have a 7950, and I was thinking about maybe upgrading to a 1080 or 1070. The card will mainly be used for 1440p (until I feel the need to upgrade my monitor). I started thinking would it be a good idea to get an Evga 980ti and use the step up program when the 1080 prices start falling (hopefully), any ideas?

The step up program is only valid for 90 days from date of purchase so unless you plan on upgrading to a 1080 within the 90 days of buying your 980TI its pointless

EVGA Step-Up® - Upgrade program
The EVGA Step-Up program helps you have the peace of mind to purchase your favorite product now, knowing you can upgrade to the latest parts that come out within the first 90 days from your purchase. In the computer hardware world, 90 days is a lifetime! With a valid part, once per purchase, you can upgrade your EVGA product by paying the difference between what you paid and the price on EVGA's website. It's really that simple!

Current cutoff for products purchased is 3/23/2016 in order to submit a request today. Products purchased on or after this date may be eligible for the Step-Up program.

EVGA Step-Up is currently only available to residents of the United States (not including outlying territories), Canada and EU Countries.

I was aware of the time limit, but I have realised that the price of 679 euros on the EVGA website is around £529, so it could make more sense just to wait until they are in stock.
