So now 980/970 is out I'm thinking about new GPUs for my existing ROG Swift.
I'm currently on 7990+7970 trifire, this is not without issues (loud, hot, frame pacing, etc) but I don't really want a regression in performance. I want to be able to sustain max settings and 1440p 144hz in as many games as possible.
My current Firestrike Extreme score is around 8200 - http://www.3dmark.com/fs/2431552
I don't have £900 to buy two 980s right now, but I could buy one and save for a 2nd. This would be a regression for now, but in 2-3 months I'd be better off than now.
My feeling is that, while 970 SLi is cheap, I won't see much of a boost past my current setup with it?
980 does seem overpriced though, and I almost feel like an AMD response, or a 980GX2 might come out making it cheaper. Or hell, GM200 has been talked about as being at a comsumer sample stage for Jan/Feb.....
