Hi, I currently have a 7970 but upgraded from 1680x1050 to 2560x1440

I have to have games set to medium a lot of the time, BF4 being one of them

I have a Corsair 300R case so a 2nd GPU probably is not ideal due to space/heat

What should I do?

Single card options

Gigabyte Radeon R9 290X OC WindForce 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £480

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780Ti WindForce 3x OC 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £530

Is the Ti worth the extra £50

Or upgrade my PSU, get a larger case and a 2nd 7970?

Is there any problem getting a different brand 7970?

Thanks

Andy

Best to go single card.
Performance is close with the 780ti edging in front.

Best to grab which ever has the features you want.

290X has mantle on the way
780ti has PhysX, G-sync (on the way) and Shadow play.

The £50 difference being worth it is all down to personal preference.
I dont play BF4 much but do play games with PhysX so I'd chose the 780. You have said you play BF4, if you play it a lot it maybe an idea to grab the 290 for the upcoming Mantle patch.

Thanks for the feedback

example of other games I play are

Skyrim
Grid 2
Eve Online
Guildwars 2
CS Source
Tombraider

I'll have a look at the tech behind the games, a friend recently purchased a 7990 and the performance increase in BF4 was substantial plus they are waiting for the mantle patch

Given the , allegedly, high resale value of a 7970; I would agree that the best alternative is to go for a new single card.

Sell the 7970 on the ...

And buy - to me the choice is between a 780 (non-ti as too expensive) or a 290 (not x - for the same reason)

As of this minute I would go 780 as I am led to believe that the standard cooler is both cool and quiet ; so no need to wait for the 290's with custom coolers or add a new cooler which might be needed if you go 290.

I just sold my 7990 and can confirm it ran all my games great on 2560x1440 but sold it due to the huge profit I made and just ordered the 780ti windforce.

I can't justify 530 for the ti but I sold my 7990 for just over that so it really only cost me the 389 I paid for it (7990). For straight performance I'd say just get another 7970, for futureproofing I think get the ti if you want the best b single card right now and money isn't a concern. Otherwise I think the regular 780 twinfrzr 4 or similar are cracking cards.
