im building a new rig this weekend parts are on the way now.
new specs
phenom 2 x6 1090t
16 gb of consair dominator ddr3
Asus M4N75TD

question is was it a good idea to hold onto my 460 razor,or should i sell and upgrade?will i get a decent enough boost from the new cpu(old one was a phenom x4 9950) or should i plonk down some more dosh for a faster card?
cheers

I would hold on to your 460 and upgrade when the new lines from Nvidia and AMD launch. (If needed)

Also you could save a little money if the system is only for gaming and stick with 8Gb of ram.

Any idea when the new cards are coming? I have a 768MB 460 at the minute, and I'm itching to buy something with more grunt! :D

It's a good point because OP doesn't say whether it's a 1GB or 768MB Razor.

If its the 768MB then It would probably pay to upgrade.

its the 1gb

im am very close to buying another right now but im unsure about the software sli :s

SulacoSystems I know nothing about SLI I'm sorry but I have done extensve research on 460's because I was very close to buying one last month, have you attempted to OC your card? The gains from overclocking 1GB 460's are what makes them such appealing cards, I'm serious.. 200+ MHz CPU clock is not unheard of.

i did try to overclock but it crashed most of my games :(

ive just ordered another razor and a xfx 850 psu :P
i will jot down the performance of a single card with my new components over the weekend, then see the difference with the second card in software sli and with a overclock when it arrives next week.i will share my findings one its all done:D

I bumped mine up 100MHz from stock, but I didn't actually get any performance increase in any game benchmarks I tried. Mafia 2 and Company of Heroes saw no increase whatsoever.

I ordered a 480 SOC, but it had to go back, so now it's a case of order another one, try something else or put up with the 460 until the new cards. I don't want to upgrade if they're only a couple of months away.

Good call on the extra 460. I had another in SLI and it really helped. The lack of VRAM was an issue, but you'll be OK with 1GB. I did notice a bit of stuttering - I don't know whether it was this infamous microstutter, the lack of VRAM or what, but my brother who doesn't usually see things like that noticed it too.

Fingers crossed for you :D

ok so i got my second card today
very mixed bag :/
first off the sli with no bridge support seems to have stopped after the 258.96 drivers,i tested with this driver and saw some good results crysis 2 maxed out at 1920x1200 jumped from 25fps avg to 45fps avg(but had the flickering issue
dead rising 2 i saw a improvement of about 15-20 fps
this was the same with gta 4
sc2 saw a big jump of almost double
and shift 2 was running at 100fps maxed out at 1920x1200
i installed the latest drivers 270.61 but sli is greyed out and says add a bridge :/
anyone know how to force it on?
