So i have an Alienware m18x R2 with a gtx680m, with an i7 3630, 512 GB SSD and 1 TB caching HDD

I have absolutely no complaints about the laptop that i have had to 4 years, but its gotten the point where I have to turn down the graphics a lot to get a decent frame rate.

So i'm looking down the barrel of 500 quid for a gtx980 kit from eurocom.

Anyone else performed an upgraded on their laptop? What was your experience like? Any gotchas?

Thank

I looked into this but never did it and sold the laptop.

As far as i know you MAY have to flash the BIOS and you will certainly need to make sure you get the right heatsink and mounting plate. You will also have to run modified drivers and i think also run with certain BIOS settings. If you have a 3d screen then that can caue issues.

Best bet is to actually contact eurocom before ordering.

If you google your model number and have a look im sure there will be people out there who have done or tried it!

Try notebookcheck alienware forums. Someone there will have done it. Prema/SVL7 will have a modded bios for it too.

Good luck. Post benchmarks when done ;)
