GPU Upgrade or Wait For Full Rig?

Hi guys,

After spending weeks researching and planning a new rig, I've hit a few financial snags that won't allow me to proceed til early '08 (bah). Of course, with new tech on the way, this may not be a bad thing...

But I digress! I currently have a P4 based pc with an X1600XT gpu. It's by no means a terribly outdated computer, but it is showing it's age on some of the latest games.

What I want to know is, will I see any worthwhile performance gains from upgrading the gfx card now (and if so, which card?), or will my cpu hold back any "modern" decent card? I'm really itching to play some new games at decent settings, but if it's not really worthwhile buying an interim card, I'll wait til January.

Any thoughts/opinions?

Oh, and upgrading anything else is not an option, as the system is a well-known proprietary pre-build jobbie!

Am I right in saying its an SGP based system..?

If so I would just wait, if its PCI-E then you could go for something like a 1950 for not much money.

Okay, sorry to rehash this again, but was just about to order an X1950 Pro, when I thought of something crucial...

Will my PSU be able to handle it? According to my manual, it's a 350W PSU, and given that the pc is a mass-produced pre build, I'm guessing it's proprietary and/or not very good!

Any thoughts?
