Hi i will be upgrading my pc with one of the following 1070 / 1080 GPUs next week. (at a sensible price)

Zotac AMP extreme 1080 or 1070
Gigabyte Gaming Xtreme 1080
Palit Gamerock 1080

A couple of questions i have is will the PSU be enough? (Previous cards r 290 and gtx980 ran no problem.) Secondly will my cpu bottleneck the gpu?
Thirdly im guessing all gpus are different when they initiate throttling (depending on the temps yeah?)

my setup atm is

i5-4690k (oc to 4.3)
ASUS z97-k mobo
16 gig (1600mhz)
2 xs 256 gig SSDs
Superflower 550w 80 plus gold https://www.overclockers.co.uk/supe...0-plus-gold-power-supply-black-ca-003-sf.html

1. Yes it should be (as you have an efficient PSU)
2. I don't think it should be a problem, although I may be wrong (it will also be somewhat dependent on resolution)
3. That is correct, decent case cooling and a card with a well-designed heatsink will prevent it from being a large problem.

xtreme for the win :D 4 years warranty with UK RMA.

Zotac I believe has 5 but def buy from OCUK! RMA is in Hong kong - and not sure how long retailers cover the warranty in-house for.

Palit I think are UK RMA but cant remember

From what ive been reading Vega has more power requirements anyway even if it has performance req close to or better than 1080. I think i have settled on a 1070 which should get me to next year and Volta.

Yeah Gigabyte are pretty good, my last card was a G1 gaming 980.
Ohh wow didnt know that Zotax's rma was Hong Kong. Important safety tip thanks! Ive set up a load of pricealerts on a host of 1070s and 1080s so if any drop to my target price area i will know straight away (dem damn bargains go very fast! within minutes! :( )

Thanks. How about if i add an Oculus or HTC Vive to the setup as well as a 1070 or 1080 still ok?

yeah but new cards on the scene you may see others drop in price.

if the new cards are really good for mining you might see others flood the market

Think that's why I lot buy zotac through OCUK , and ocuk have good RMA relationships with all the vendors I think .
Helps gigabyte reps on here

Processor should still be fine, I would probably go for a 1080 for VR purposes.
