Hi all, hope your all well.

I've been looking at upgrading my GPU for a while now, im currently gaming at 1920x1080 and using a Q6600 cpu with a mild overclock, Asus P5Q pro mobo, 2x2gig 8500 ram, seasonic S12 psu and vista 64bit.

Whats my options for a gpu upgrade from a GTX260 ?( preferably Nvidia) i think maybe tho that perhaps my whole rig is knocking ona bit ? and i should consider a new rig in the nearer future. Games are still fairly playable but im having to come down a lot now on eye candy settings to keep a playable fps

Games im currently involved in are things like wow(mainly pve rading) starcraft, minecraft, crysis 2, BFBC2 and Eve online. Eve online is currently mincing my machine too, settings have had to come down very low.

I suppose im also worried about bottlenecking this system with a top end card, where do you guys read about whats an approximate match for CPU/Gpu combo's. I dont mind doing some reading about it all to help in a decision

Cheers all hope you can offer some advice

Something like a GTX 460 or 5850 would be a good upgrade. Not too fast that it's waiting on your CPU and will carry over to your next rig.

I'll say it though as someone else will. Thought about a full upgrade? Q6600 is still a good CPU but you can get much better and will start to show its age come BF3 IMO.

Something like this would be a nice upgrade.

When you say you have a mild overclock on the Q6600 how much precisely do you mean? If you can get it to 3.2+ then it's still a good processor and shouldn't bottleneck a GTX 470. The mobo you've got should be capable of 3ghz +.

That gtx 470 is a fantastic price if they ever materialize that is I'd personally gpo for a second hand 5850 or 5870 but don't pay over £85 for a 5850 for a 5850 second hand no idea why people are currently paying around £100 for them when most bought them for £105-£120 ish.
It's defo worth waiting for the gtx 470 though but the gtx 470 is close to the 5870 across a lot of games beats it on some but beaten by it on some.

If you don't plan to change your CPU and platform then a GTX470 would be good enough.

If you plan to upgrade your CPU and platform then you could go for

i5 2500K (OC to around 5GHz) + something like P67/Z68 mobo + 2 x 4GB DDR3 2000C8 + GTX580 x 2 + Crucial M4 128GB SSD, great bang for buck.

Personally I would wait until the 28nm cards are released.

(If you need even better value and bang for buck then go and buy the Mars II as bhavv suggested :D)

Hi again,

Im currently running at 8x400 3.2/1600fsb (1.4v cpu in bios) Dram is 400, 1: fsb/ram with timings of 5,5,5,15,52,2T.
I need a new cooler before i can push this any further due to only using the stock cooler. but im up for getting the most out of it when i do.

I been interested in the MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 1024MB as thats within in my sort of pricerange just, and would carry over to my next system if i delay a new build due to the over clocking going well.

What do you think ? :)
