GPU Upgrade: What would you do?

Evening gents, hope you can help me with a little dilemma.

Recently my BFG 8800GTS 512 OC died. I was looking forward to cashing in on my 10 year warranty, but of course BFG had to go norks north and I'm stuck with looking at buying another card.

The 8800GTS would play any game I owned at 1080p to a level I was satisfied with. To give you an idea, the last three games I purchased for PC were Sniper Ghost Warrior, MW2, and Portal 2 (I play most games on my Xbox 360, you see). The two future games I would like to play on my PC are MW3 and Skyrim. I know that my dual core CPU (see sig) is going to be somewhat of a bottle neck, but I haven't the cash to replace both GPU and CPU. So as far as I can see, I have two options:

One, is to buy a GTX 560 1GB for about £135 from this very site. This would allow me to make future updates real easy as I'd just add another 560. It's a little more cash that I'd like to spend, but looking at the alternative cards I'd rather pay the extra for the extra performance.

Two, is to relieve my friend of his used GTS 250 512MB for £30. This is undoubtedly a bargain, and I am looking for a solution on a budget as I would then get a better card later in the year. However, is it actually a solution at all considering the games I'm wanting to play on it?

So, OCUKers, what would you do?

To be honest I think putting a quad like Q6600(and over clock ofc) second hand and upgrading the GPU will be the best for most parts! Granted you will not be able to turn on all the bells and whistles but that should run fine at 1080 res.

Thanks for the advice, decided to go for the GTS 250 and will look at upgrading my CPU. Looking to try and get a Q9650 second hand and then get a GTX 560 Ti later down the line, with possible SLI action whenever I next need to upgrade.

I upgraded my core 2 duo with a Q9550. Boosted system performance nicely. And will give it couple more years of life before I need to upgrade
