Is there a single card option for updating a pair of GTX 680's ? I'd like to see some performance improvement but mostly want to reduce fan noise. I'll exclude the Titan Z as it's way too expensive.

Andi.

Stock coolers, I suppose I could replace them with quieter ones. Is a 780ti really that much faster than a pair of 680's?

680 sli is faster than 780ti, however you have the added bonus of being able to have a nice quiet single card and no sli hiccups - although it's come on a very long way with the 7 series.

I see 2 options, sell the 680s now and buy a 780ti or hold on for the 800 series (paper launch in sept I believe) and see what that brings to the table.

The one downside is you have less chance selling the 680s for as much at that point.

In all honesty, no, though for a single gpu + card set up a 780ti or the 290X are the only options you have available (I expect in some games there might be a slight boost / better minimums, etc). The only way you'll get a reasonable level of higher performance over your 680's, is to go for another dual set up (e.g. 780 SLI).

If your happy with the speed of your 680's, then perhaps just consider trying out some new coolers?
