Hi all,

I have a chance to upgrade my GPU and want some ideas.

Around £140ish is my budget!

Current specs:

AMD FX6350 hex core 3.9/4.2
Gigabyte Ga-970A-DS3P
8GB Avexir Core Yellow 1600mhz
HD7870 2GB
128gb ssd
2tb hdd
PSU: XFX PRO550W

Yeah, grab another 7870 and Crossfire. Your £140 budget is only going to stretch to an R9 270X which is just a 7870 anyway. With a few extra quid you could get an 280 but it's debateable whether the performance boost would be worth it. We're talking 10-20% tops.

That system is well-balanced (it woulc actually bottleneck you existing 7870 in game that don't use up to 4-6 cores). If it is for 1920 res, wouldn't really recommend upgrading the graphic card unless you upgrade the CPU first.

Another 7870 will be badly bottlenecked by your CPU sadly. I would also put the cash towards a new CPU. 8350 perhaps :)

Didn't spot the 16/4 for crossfire so you are correct there would be no point in doing that .....

Looking at your build and to minimise wasted cash I would look on the MM for a good used 7970 as you have OC'd your CPU to 4.2 the rest of your system would sit fine with this and allow you to play the current games at a reasonable quality at 1080p .... 7970's seem to go for around £100.

My 6350 is at 4.2ghz all the time atm,

I already have a Cooler Master Seidon 120M hydro cooler

And yes, I am playing at 1080p on a Packard Bell Viseo 27" monitor via hdmi cable

How much better is the 8 core over the 6 core mind, as games don't utilise 8 cores
