Currently have a ATI Radeon 5870, bit old and out of date for some of latest games, my pc is good enough at moment, I5 2500K @ 4.5ghz, but I haven't clue what to go for?

Budget around £250-£300, I need Eyeinfinity for it to work, so am I restricted to just ATI or does Nvidia do same?

Been looking around lately, the Powercolor R9 290X looks good but is out of stock :(

MSI R9 290X £275
Sapphire R9 290X £259

I do play games like battlefield 4, call of duty as well as Assetto Corsa, and I run some my racing games in 5760x1080 using eyeinfinity.

I did also look at Nvidia 970s but I haven't used a Nvidia card since the lovely 8800 GTX days..
 
970 and 980 can run 4 displays.

I also had been on red team since 8800GTX, but very happy with my switch back to green.

I went 8800GTX->8800GTX 3 way SLI->4870X2->4870X2 4 way Xfire->7970->7970/7990 trifire->980 SLI

970 is within your budget, and I think would be a very good choice.
