hi guys need some advice for upgrading current GPU:

GTX Geforce 660 2GB stock

my original plan was to do a straight swap with a GTX970 4GB however reading some posts in this section other people are recommending cards like the R9 which is cheaper etc however i only have a 550w PSU which rules out the R9 because it says it requires 600w PSU

the new card must also have dual DVI ports, i would also like to watercool the card in the future,

final question with regards to SLI, is it possible to for example if i buy a GTX 970 could i connect this to my current GTX 660 and run both? is that how it works?

many thanks

The R9 390 can use about 420W max system consumption( i.e including all other system components) so will work fine with a 550W PSU as long as it's a decent brand and not one of those cheap £15 PSU's.

For an SLI system you have to have the same type of card i.e 2x970's so you can't use your old GTX 660 with a 970.

what is your psu - as long as its a decent brand 550w won't have a single issue with 390;

also what's your resolution?

1080p its a wash between 390 and 970; 390 winning some; 970 winning some and they tie some....

Soon as you move to a higher resolution; 390 all the way. Plus looking like better DX 12 performance....and 390 usual cheaper or the same price.

I'd get a 390......

You can't sli 660 with 970; and 660 honestly wouldn't be worth keeping for physics either......so; again 390 would be best card to get in that price range.

thanks for the info guys, i have a corsair RM550 bronze edition

as for resolution im running dual screen at 1080p
with the 390 can i later watercool it?

well here it is, went out and purchased the 390, fitting was a breeze

also bought a new PSU which i was going to upgrade the RM550 in february anyway

love the card, its 10x quieter than my old gtx660, thanks for the advice very happy customer now :)
