Hi just wondering if a 1070 would be overkill for this system , im running three screens 5816 x 1080
and dont have plans to change that , mostly play race sims , but recently getting into the hunter cotw
and have to run that on 1 . If an rx480 would do the job it would suit my pocket better. currently have an ageing r9 280 and would like some more frames .

i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon)
Gigabyte Z97X-SLI Intel Z97
TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz
MSI Radeon R9 280 Gaming 3072MB

Cheers Nozz

A 1070 certainly won't be overkill.

A 480 would still be a nice upgrade, and will bag you, roughly, an extra 75% more performance.

Thanks the Asus rx480 4gb from oc looks a deal at £150 , realy not sure about the extra £200 for the 1070

Ive managed to only ever spend £150 on a gpu ever since the voodo 1

I get the impression that you could be the sort of person that is quite flexible with settings, but just simply requires an upgrade. I imagine running that many screens/resolution will probably mean, regardless of the card, that you'll have to compromise on some settings at least some of the time anyway.

Ultimately it depends on just how much you're comfortable spending.

These appear to be the starting prices for the cheapest/decent models on here:

I'm not sure I like the look of the white shroud in these instances, but each to their own. :)

Thanks for your time , you read me well ..i can afford the 1070 but its hard to justify to myself ,
ive very much enjoyed the bang for buck ( assume the rx480 is at £150? ) price point cards over the years and never been disapointed .
would the 8gig vram help if any over the 4gig do you think at my res .

You're welcome. :)

Yes, it seems that the 4gb 480s begin around the £150 mark.

I haven't had the experience of running that kind of resolution, but generally speaking, the higher the resolution + more memory hungry games, then the more video memory you'll require (depends on what settings you use as well, of course).
