Hi been thinking of an upgrade running a HIS AMD 6870 1gb memory atmo but even with 60 odd meg fibre finding a delay with hit reg etc (mind many cheats out there on BF4)so could be a lot to do with them?

Looked at a few used cards like R9 290x etc on flea bay but some going for daft prices.

Running an ASUS P8P67 board with a I5 2500 cpu 16gig of ram.
Enermax 10050 watt psu.

Aiming for better play on BF4 mostly.

Looking to upgrade monitor later as a 23" ACER which is DVI.

What does anyone recommend?

Other thing thought about was changing CPU first as a few used ones around like an i5 3670 or i7 etc or what ones do you think are better?

Would an upgrade on cpu be a better start for another GPU or is the 2500 ok?

Many thanks

Hi 3 carrots and a half eaten banana! Well not a massive amount why looked at used cards i guess around upto £150 maybe later could go higher as have a few things to sell off.

I just wondered if either the i5 or i7 would enable what ive got to run a bit better while raid all the piggy banks! if i can find one cheap enough to make it worth while?
I guess a halfway measure if that makes sense?

But guess the GPU route makes more sense

Friend has just replaced his 770 for a 1080 but he was going on about £200 odd

£200!!!! those cards have not aged well. i would go to £75 max for a 770. is your 2500 a 2500k - is so overclock it as well, bf4 online loves lots of cores/clocks

That 970 should be a massive improvement over your current 6870 - nice one.

Even though you're running a non-K CPU, on the P67 series you can still overclock it by 4 'bins' - which for you equates to an extra 400MHz. This adds onto your base and all your boost clocks. Not a huge increase, but better than nothing so I'd say to do it.

Hi thanks for that and did read a review in it and can clock the card a bit which gives a deff boost in figures as well.

I'l have a poke around if you think worth it for a better i5 or an i7 as found a couple 2600k and next gen i5 for reasonable amounts not sure what ones give most bang for bucks etc Rem should be ok and have enough power and cooling is taken care of with a thick 360 in lid of case

Card turned up but not getting any post screen or anything blue light on monitor is staedy though not saying no signal!
Someone was saying there is an issue between newer cards like the 970 and asus p8p67 mobo?

Congratulations! :) How did you get it working? Just wondering if it's something that other people may run into in future too.
Good stuff dude

Hi my other card didn't display other day then had a 'blob' plodding round screen saying input not recognised!

Depowered all pulled both 6pins out pushed right in making sure clips locked pushed card right into socket checking locked dvi card well home rebooted and worked!

so thought mm cunning plan as trying to get gpu checked somewhere was harder than getting noahs ark to refloat! so did same thing all power off and run down so nothing residule made sure card was well in the slot when did screw to hold card in case just did gently up as read somewhere about diff with board and case pulling card away! made sure al cables well in and booted up saw something come up so thought 'bingo' it went further than off ooops! then after short while action and worked!

did test in occd 60fps temps went to 45c and cpu 41c so happy.

One thing i think is the mobo/case/frame/screw issue as pulling that end of card out! to watch for.

Read been issues with 970's also that mobo also pci x16 in 2.1 but this board is 2.0 and know someone same type of board with a 1060 which runs a ok.

gpu driver is out of date but runs ok so leave as is for now!
Getting 200fps on ultra in BF4 on 1080.

Just need to find gpu apps like precision but other friend with 1080 evga don't use know as buggy with fan issues so think using Palit one but says can't play with lighting! but says white is perfect anyway!but can make power curves custom.

what benefits would a cpu change give me? as found a K version along with other i5's next gen i think along with i7 2600k
