Hi All forum members.

I currently have GTX 760 and am quite happy with it.
I mean, it doesn't play all the games to the extent that I would like it to but I just cannot justify spending £400+ on something mid/high end that would.

Despite having 2x 1440p monitors, I only play at 1080p on a single monitor due to my current limitations and doubt that I would expand onto two monitors even if my GPU would allow me to.

Problem is that my current video card is dying due to age (Some random freezing etc) and I would like to upgrade.
I'm not rich and cannot spend too much money but due to working at home am willing to throw around ~£250 into it as I need it for work most of the time.

I'm Nvidia fan myself and have stopped at GTX 1060 6GB which I think would be quite significant improvement over my old card but am willing to expand to AMD as well or any other options you think are worth considering.

Any ideas? Have I chosen the right card?

From benchmarks I have seen, at 1080p the 1060 is a great choice. I have a 780 ti and the 1060 is probably a little better than that. I run games at 1440p with the 780ti and it handles everything with some performance tweaks for more modern games. Cant think what AMD have that is equivalent, RX 580 potentially. However, I keep reading posts where people are suggesting waiting until after GTC, which is very soon, so you could hold off for a few weeks you can see if there are any new cards coming.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I might wait a few weeks to see if prices go down on existing cards or if something new comes out at the same price range.

Thought about second hand? My single 980 is still a cracking card. You might even nab a ti.
I have but I don't like buying second hand technology. No warranties, no way of properly testing anything either before you buy. So I would look into that direction only as the very last resort.

GTX 1060 6GB does appear to be the better buy now. The 3GB version is only 10 % or so behind but if you have 8GB or less of system RAM the 3GB version can run out of VRAM and start to swap to system memory or even worse to swap files and that causes stuttering etc.

The OCUK offer on the RX580 would have swung it that way but the £299.99 code offer has finished unfortunately.

Rest of my build is pretty good
4790K
32GB RAM DDR3

So I don't think I would experience any issues there but I believe that paying those extra £40-£50 will save me in long term as additional 3GB of memory on GPU could play a big difference in next few years.

Thanks for the advise guys :) I think I'm on the right track with the choice then. Just going to wait for another month with a hope that my current GPU doesn't die until then.

It's a shame you don't have access to MM, it's brilliant.
Apologies, what is MM? :) Assuming it's some sort of members area on this forum for second hand stuff? Could I cheat the system and ask somebody to sell me something LOL ?:) Joking of course :( Against the rules anyways

Yup it's the Members Market. Bought and sold on there before, there's even a ratings system.

If I sell my 980 soon I'm happy to contact you.
Would be more than happy to hear from you :)
Not to be too pushy, do you have any rough idea as to when you are planning to sell it mate?
