Hi all
I am looking for recommendations for a gpu upgrade.
The pc currently has a nvidia 1060 and an Intel 4x series i5, but this will also be upgraded.
Looking to spend upto £500 for a card, which will initially be used at 1080p then will upgrade the monitor to a 1440p res monitor down the line.
I've been looking at the nvidia 3080 & 4070, but wonder if they are over kill for 1080&1440 gaming?
I've always been an nvidia fanboy, but will to try ati if necessary.

Thanks in advanced :)

Not overkill, a 4070 or 7800 XT is the minimum I'd want for longer-term 1440p gaming. You can get a MSI 4070 for £450 at OCUK, though it is white, the black/silver version is £20 more.

depending on whats going on with the cpu the choice is kinda moot when you will be massively cpu limited regardless

I picked up a 7800xt pulse on B grade last month and couldn't be happy, great price and it looked good as new :)

For the money the 7800xt is stonking card too! (Fixed....can confirm card was not smelly!)

The only issue with B-Grade GPUs is that may be one with excessive coil whine or if you’re lucky, just a return as unwanted. Coil whine can get better with time, or not. And even then, some people aren’t as bothered by that, unless is a screamer.

Yeah can be the case, I guess some people are more/less forgiving on whine etc. than others.
I game with headset on 90% of the time so for the saving, happy Ben!

I have been lucky and both my old Asrock 6800 and this current 7800xt have been top drawer immaculate cards and must have been returns or in case of the 6800 was brown box so maybe damaged packaging or warranty repair / replacement card?

Either way you have the 30 days piece of mind from BGrade and OCuk are a top bunch so if you aren't happy you are covered :)
