Hi. Is 99% GPU usage ok in games for card to run at with vsync off. With vsync on its half. I have only tested it with 2 games lately as that's al I have installed. I have tested skyrim which is old and I get 56% usage with vsync off. With AC Unity its 99%. I no these 2 games are different and skyrim is old but with graphic set to full on a 970 GTX is this fine?. Thanks.

Someone will probably elaborate on this, but high GPU usage is a good thing these days. It means the game is using the card to it's full extent.

Lower usage usually means (I think) it is using more of the CPU.

When I see low GPU usage in a game, I can't help but feel that I'm not using the hardware I've paid good money for, and it's an annoyance I guess.

I think that is what we all strive for, so long as you're getting a good frame rate when it's maxing out the GPU then you're golden.

It's only time to worry when you're at 99% and you're only getting 25FPS :D

99% GPU usage means it's being used to it's full potential.

The fact that Vsync causes the usage to go down is not a bad thing. It happens because your card is capable of rendering more frames than your monitor can handle, so Vsync makes it create less (usually the max your monitor can handle).

Less frames = Less work = Less usage%.

yep this pritty much. You should see slightly less cpu usage too with Vsync on in games which drops your GPU usage down from 100% and still rendering 60FPS or to what ever your refresh rate is.

No vsync u should see 99/100% usage if not you more than likely have a bottleneck from ur cpu.

Vsync on u will see how much gpu power it needs to gain whatever ur vsync is set to.

Thanks...

My TV is 60hz so I normally I do have vsync on. I do though have slow downs and just been experimenting with vsync off. I have only had this card just under 2 weeks. With vsync I have bad mouse acceleration or lag cant tell which it is at times. But with vsync off its fine but get really bad screen tearing. Would a 144hz get rid of this. I wasn't too sure be for to get a 144hz monitor due to the 99% gpu usage but as seen as this is good for the card I will get one if it will get rid of screen tearing and mouse problems with vsync off.

Try NV vsync (with in-game off) works great for me in GTA V with non of those silly 60-45 and 60-30 FPS drops.

But generally yeah GSync is were it's at.

That's not completely true.
Vsync @60hz might only need say 60-80% GPU usage to hit it's target 60fps. Say with 290x, while a less powerful GPU might need 100% to hit that target.
